Lets have a look at how RED HOT spent February and March 2014

Early February we got our delivery of our updated promo material. Make sure you ask us for one, it has all the dates of our socials for the year and
details on how to contact us for functions and demo's etc.

our shiny new flyers and cards

Kathryn and Kelvin were excited to take part in the NSW linedance ball fundraiser workshop/social day. It was held at the Greyhound Club at Yagoona and was very well attended. They raised about $800 to go towards the balls fundraising tally. Kathryn and Kelvin were invited to teach their dance "Mountain Girl" and it was very well received with everyone getting into the spirit of the actions and 'yee-haws'

Our first social of the year was our "Valentines Day" social .... check out the earlier post about this fun night - we love fancy dress nights at RED HOT & COUNTRY

some snaps from the Valentines Day social

Kathryn and Kelvin continued to teach classes each week at Austral and Nepean, with Kathryn teaching most of the beginner and early intermediate dances and Kelvin the intermediate section. Both classes are lots of fun with a great group of dancers coming each week

Kelvin and Kathryn doing what they love !

After their successes in Tamworth, Kathryn had sent details to the local paper, they finally picked up the story and in March there was a great article in the Liverpool Leader on the success of RED HOT & COUNTRY at the Australian Championships

photos in the Liverpool Leader - March 2014

When the photographer came to take the photo - Kathryn and Kelvin recognised him from a previous photo shoot 4 years earlier when Kathryn attended her first Mayworth Competition. The photographer even remembered the 'pose' he had them do, and wanted to recreate it, when the newspaper came out, they discovered they had used the same photo !! (and yes Kelvin could still jump that high !!!)

While not specifically line dance related, Kathryn and Kelvin spent a weekend in March with a whole lot of other linedancers at CMC rocks the hunter, this event draws country music fans from all over. There are some great acts from Australia and overseas that make up a great program of entertainment for the whole weekend. It is always great to hang with people who share your love of country music. Maddison Glover organised for us to have some cool t'shirts made up for the 'headline' act Toby Keith .... we could spot each other in the 20,000 plus crowd in our stand out shirts.

Without doubt, one of Kelvin and Kathryn's favourite artists was Clay Walker, he was a standout and it was just disapointing that he didn't have a longer set, his voice was amazing and was a true country performer

In the moshpit for Clay Walker

Because we like to dress up !! We had Irish Day's for to celebrate St Patricks Day, there was a lot of 'green' and Kelvin taught two Irish dances, "Irish Stew" and "the Blarney Roses" was a fun night as usual

The Nepean gang get in the spirit of St Patricks Day

The 22nd of March was a BUSY day for RED HOT & COUNTRY. We had a full day at the Penrith Festival, doing demos, promoting our classes at our stall and taking part in the parade, it was a Rock and Roll themed event and we had a blast. We did little mini demo's and teaches all day long.

The gang ready to dance down the street behind our decked out van

But there was no rest after such a busy day ..... it was straight home to pack for the RED HOT fundraiser social that was on that night, Kathryn declared the theme of the night 'tired and exhausted' and so many of our dancers felt the same way..... it was, as always a fun night with lots of dances old and new and everyone getting some of their requests played. We raised around $400 to go towards the NSW line dance ball fundraising tally

Kathryn and Kelvin with Ronald                Sandy and Chris always get into the spirit of the evening

Kathryn and Belinda had no trouble getting into the 'tired and exhausted' theme of the night

To finish off March with a 'bang' we had the NSW state linedance ball ... but that deserves a post of its own .... stay tuned !!!

RED HOT ~First Social for 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY ~ First Social for 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY had a fantastic night at our first social for 2014, the theme was 'post valentine' and we asked people to wear RED or HEARTS.

Kathryn and Kelvin all ready to start the night

It is always great when everyone gets into the spirit of these nights and dresses up. The floor was full all night with Kelvin playing everyone's requests all night. We are enjoying seeing new people attend each month, thanks to Michael and Michelle Fong and Josh Talbot for coming along this month. And to those who traveled over an hour to be there with us !!  Kelvin ran a competition to see how many LOVE songs he played during the night - but everybody was too busy dancing - so they lost count !!

Kathryn did a quick teach of Jennifer Hughes's dance "down to the islands' which is a cute beginner dance

lots of fun had by all

Hope to see you next month for our FUNDRAISER social for Ronald McDonald House on 22 March. More details to follow.

Our dates for 2014 have been set - make sure you pick up a brochure next time you see us

Red Hot in Tamworth 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY ~ Tamworth 2014

RED HOT & COUNTRY had a fantastic time in Tamworth, bringing home lots of medals and having lots of fun

Kathryn and Belinda set off bright and early in a 'convoy' of sorts with Kelvin, Pat and Cathryn, cars packed to the brim with all our requirements for Tamworth, hats, boots and outfits galore

we love a road trip !

First night there, Kelvin and Kathryn hit the town to see as many artists as they could, and first up was Benn Gunn. Kathryn and Kelvin had choreographed to a number of Benn's songs and he was happy to catch up with them at his gig. Then it was off to see another Ben, Ben Ransom who has two songs on his latest albums that have dances to them. And then it was a visit to Wests to catch up with the awesome Grizzly Adams for a chat.

On Saturday we joined Chris Watson at his fundraising event "country in the vines" where we saw some great country artists. Kathryn and Kelvin left a bit early to go to the family concert in the park where they were on the main stage to teach 'big dog' how to dance. Kelvin taught him to 'shake it' and got the kids in the crowd to get up and join in

Dancing with big dog

That night, Kelvin hosted the first social at the tennis club ... the theme was 'bright' and we certainly had some great colours ! The floor was a bit slippery for Kathryn - so she ended up making an interesting fashion statement!

a very trendy look

First day of the Australian Line Dance Championships was Choreography, and Kathryn and Kelvin had a number of dances entered in each of the sections. Kathryn got a bronze medal for her beginner dance 'don't wanna wait', in the early intermediate section Kathryn and Kelvin got a GOLD for their fun dance 'Mountain Girl' and in the unreleased section Kathryn received another bronze for 'spotlight'. Kathryn was so excited by her gold medal, even though it was a 'joint' medal - it hasn't left her hands since !!

Kathryn and Kelvin with their gold medal for "mountain girl" (video here)

As the winning dance, Kathryn got to work-shop it to those in attendance

yep - Kathryn was pretty excited !

Kathryn had also choreographed a dance with Linda Wolfe called 'Dance your pain away' it was co-choreographed and they had never actually danced it together until the comp ! - as it had all been done long distance. It is to an Agentha (from ABBA) song as both Linda and Kathryn are ABBA fans from way-back !!  They received lots of good feedback from it! You can see the video here

Kathryn and Linda dancing with Robyn and Lyn in Choreo

Day one of the competition was 'basic' day where we danced class routines with no fancy hat or skirt work. It was about dancing the dances well, unity and presentation. We did a great job in all of these and won a number of medals. Kathryn and Belinda were thrilled with their GOLD for the routine 'easy' which was a Chris Watson dance (and they were glad that Chris was there to watch them dance it) the team also got a GOLD and Kathryn and Kelvin were very proud of there bronze for their 'bonfire heart' routine as the over 45 category has always been a tough one to get a place in as there are some great dancers in that category. It was a great start to the competition for RED HOT and everyone was excited

random images from day 1

Day 2 was solo's and Belinda and Robyn competed in a number of events throughout the day. Kathryn was on the scoring desk with Pat for most of the day and doing some mock judging.

Belinda got 2 silvers for her solo's.          Kathryn and Pat on the scoring table

The next few days of competition saw us dancing lots and getting lots of medals, we had a great time and got lots of lovely feedback on our dancing and how it had improved. Kathryn and Belinda got a gold for their waltz to 'train' (a countback as it was so close in score to the second place getter) they also a third in 'instructor student' for which they are very proud of.

some shots from our routines

some random pics from the competition.

We had such fun at our socials every night too, Kelvin and Chris Watson host them every night at the tennis club they are the BEST and HOTTEST DJ's in town and the floor is rockin' all night long ..... but the fun doesn't end there, as we always try to 'hit the town' afterwards to grab another show and had some great fun with some great friends

what happens in Tamworth .... ends up on facebook !!!

Kelvin's big at the Tamworth Tennis Club !!!

It was a great week, congrats to the LDAA for hosting the Australian Line Dance Championships, it was fun, friendly and well organised, we really enjoyed being a part of it. We all loved the socials at the Tennis Club with Chris and Kelvin, thanks guys for keeping us dancing into the night. And the daytime dancing at Shopping World that Chris hosts every year is always a lot of fun. Can't wait till next year ...........................

Dec - Jan 2014 Round up

A catch up of what RED HOT & COUNTRY has been up to for the last few months..........

Lets have a look at how RED HOT spent their December and January .......

In December we were invited back to Kemps Creek Public School for their Christmas Concert, where Kathryn, Kelvin and Erin entertained the crowds. They danced to Christmas songs and had the crowd ‘shaking it’ to Mariah Carey’s ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ and everyone had a good time and got involved in dancing along.

we love doing demo's

We held our Christmas Social and had special guest Lynda Barnes come along and sing some tracks from her new album including ‘thank you’ which was the song used for Gisela’s 80th birthday waltz. Kathryn also taught her brand new dance ‘Spotlight’ to the song of the same name. We had a great night and got to hear some wonderful live music. Lynda has a song on the album written about Kelvins late father-in-law which she also sang on the night.

lots of laughs as always at our socials

On 14 December, RED HOT was rushed off their feet with Demo after Demo. First was at St Marys Town Centre for their Christmas show, they love us at St Marys and keep inviting us back. We had a great group of our dancers join us, and the crowd got up with us as did the MC and we taught them to ‘shake it’ …. Such a fun morning

thanks to all our dancers for coming along and being part of our demos

Then Kathryn and Belinda headed off to Chatswood to do a demo and teach for Compeer which is an arm of St Vincent DePauls. Kathryn taught about 50 people on the worlds smallest dance floor and they LOVED it !! So much great feedback on the day

a fun afternoon

Then Kathryn and Kelvin headed off to a Christmas Party for the staff of a local nursing home. Over 100 people were there and Kathryn and Kelvin taught them a number of dances as well as doing a couple of demos. Their theme was ‘Wild West’ and everyone looked fabulous.

a great night had by all

because they had sooooo much energy left in them after such a ‘quiet’ day ……. Kathryn and Kelvin headed off to Ryde X to join in the Boots and Diamonds for their Christmas social. Was a fun night with some ‘interesting’ entertainment lead by Josh Talbot and Brett Jenkins !!

sometimes it's best not to ask !!!!

Kathryn with host Josh Talbot

At our fundraiser in October, we had raised funds for the Palliative Care unit at Mt Druitt where Kathryn’s Mum had spent her last days. We had a representative from the unit come and accept a ‘large cheque’ for $1320. Trish from the unit was happy to receive the money which will be used to purchase a special machine to assist in pain relief for patients. Trish stayed to watch the class lead by Kathryn and Kelvin dance ‘it never goes away’ which was the dance dedicated to Kathryn’s mother. It was a very moving night for Kathryn, but also very satisfying to hand over money for such a good cause, THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the success of the fundraiser night.

a very emotional night

RED HOT & COUNTRY began training in earnest for Tamworth, we trained just about every day with Belinda and Kathryn starting early and getting some training in between Christmas and New Year

having fun at training

Classes came back the first week in January and Kathryn and Kelvin got straight into teaching some great new dances

Kathryn loves teaching !

Most of January was spent training with Robyn, Belinda, Kathryn and Kelvin getting together every spare minute to perfect their routines for Tamworth and the Australian Championships. They had numerous routines to do, including a few in the newly created 'basic' section.

Always LOTS of laughs at our training sessions

The last few weeks of January were spent in Tamworth - a separate entry will follow
